Steel imports worth Rs 20,000 crore avoided due to DMISP policy: Pradhan

India avoided steel imports worth over Rs 20,000 crore following DMISP policy since its launch in 2017, Union Steel Minister Dharmendra Pradhan said. In 2017, the government launched the National Steel Policy (NSP) with an aim to scale up India's steel manufacturing capacity to 300 million tonnes by 2030 with an additional investment of Rs 10 lakh crore. The government also rolled out the domestically manufactured iron and steel products policy (DMISP) policy to boost the use of domestic steel products in government organisations. In 2019 India emerged as the world’s second largest steel producer, surpassing the US and Japan.
