Finance minister Piyush Goyal, citing the example of the United States, supported the idea of currency printing to fund the fiscal deficit. Goyal had announced a major income support scheme for small and marginal farmer families as well as tax sops for middle class citizens. The fiscal deficit estimate for the current year has been revised upwards to 3.4% of the GDP. "As finance ministers we are always in need of money," Goyal said addressing the foundation day anniversary event of the state-run SPMCIL. SPMCIL supplies bank notes, coins and security documents to the central government and the states.
