Paytm led the transactions volume in the Unified Payments Interface (UPI) with 221 million transactions in January. It was closely followed by Google Pay and Phone Pe who recorded around 220 million transactions each. PhonePe, however, registered 225 million transactions across all payment modes worth Rs 30,000 crore in January. Overall, UPI clocked around 672 million transactions last month, up from 620 million in December. However, the sector is still dominated by peer-2-peer transactions. The government-promoted BHIM reported 14 million transactions in January, down from 17 million in December 2018.
