The Income tax department is taking initiatives to relieve the taxpayers of harassment during income tax verifications and scrutiny. The department plans to introduce features, including team-based assessment, video-conferencing and e-review of orders to ensure quality assessments and avoid high pitched tax demands. A strong back office will be set up with no public contact. The assessments will be conducted faceless and independent of any tax jurisdiction. An officer from any region may be assigned a case through an automated process. The final order will also be reviewed by a team of experts before it is released to the assessee.
