Banks cannot refuse credit to MSMEs covered under emergency credit facility: FM

FM Nirmala Sitharaman said banks cannot refuse credit to MSMEs under the emergency credit facility and any refusal should be reported. “If refused, such instances must be reported. I will look into it," Sitharaman said at a Ficci event. As of July 23, 2020, the total amount sanctioned under the 100% Emergency Credit Line Guarantee Scheme (ECLGS) by public sector banks and private banks stands at Rs 1,30,491.79 crore, of which Rs 82,065.01 crore has already been disbursed. As part of the Aatmanirbhar Bharat Package, the government had announced Rs 3 lakh crore Collateral-free Automatic Loans for businesses, including MSMEs.
