59 Chinese apps banned | Is it legal? Here's what the Indian IT Act says

The government’s order to ban 59 Chinese apps may not be legal if one goes by Section 69A of the Information Technology Act, according to Internet Freedom Foundation (IFF), an internet policy think tank. Section 69A allows the Central Government to block content where it believes that a particular content threatens the security of the State; the sovereignty, integrity or defence of India; friendly relations with foreign States; public order. However, IFF argues that the required protocol laid down in the rules was not followed before blocking the content/website. Prescribed protocol includes a defined notice, hearing and a reasoned order.
