The government has proposed amendments to the Aadhaar Act which would make entities liable to a penalty of upto Rs 1 crore for violating its provisions and an additional fine of upto Rs 10 lakh per day in case of continuous non-compliance, sources said. Other proposed amendments include empowering Unique Identification Authority of India (UIDAI)[1] to take enforcement actions against such erring entities and allowing children, holding Aadhaar, to cancel their Aadhaar number within a period of six months of attaining 18 years of age. The amendment also proposes use of Virtual ID and offline modes of Aadhaar.
